Trainee Counselling Psychologist

Hi, I’m Ciara. Depending on what you are coming to therapy for I will draw from the approach that fits best for you as an individual. I am interested in learning about you, your past, present, what you want out of therapy, and how you want to move forward. Together, we will engage in a reflective and transformative process, seeking meaning amid life’s challenges. Wherever you are in your journey, you can expect therapy to be a collaborative, empathic, encouraging, and explorative space.

Qualification and Experience

Currently, I am training as a Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist at the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling. I hold a certificate from Regent’s University in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a MSc in Psychology and a BSc in History from University College London. I believe my experience allows me to consider how we as humas experience the world. I work as an integrative therapist, using Existential psychotherapy as my main modality. However, depending on your needs, I will employ different modalities.

My work experience includes suicide prevention at Rethink Mental Illness and bereavement support at Cruse Bereavement Care, working in a trauma-informed way. This has enabled me to consider the contextual, cultural, and societal impact on one’s life and experiences. I have worked with a wide range of clients with different life experiences – I look forward to exploring what challenges you have encountered in life.

I have lived in Hong Kong, New York, South Africa and London, so I am able to access challenges that present themselves across different cultural contexts. Additionally, I am curious about how culture plays a role in who we are.

My approach to therapy

Embracing an existential framework, my therapeutic approach centres around exploring the fundamental questions of human existence in a non-judgemental space. Existential psychotherapy serves as the cornerstone of my practice, offering a unique lens through which we can unravel life’s complexities. I work in a phenomenological way, which means together we will explore your subjective experiences and feelings. I am interested in you as an individual and your holistic experience, rather than a specific issue.

Therapy with me is a caring, supportive, and open process. I create an environment which is safe and secure. Therefore, our discussions are confidential. I provide a space where I can be with you on your journey through empathic listening. However, I may draw on cognitive tools, mindfulness, experiential exercises and more to aid me in this work.

Current work interest

I work with varied issues, but my interests involve identity, life transitions, culture, anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationships, and stress. I take clients from any group or background and age 18+. I can work both long and short term, depending on what you would prefer. I offer in-person sessions.
